This is just a personal guess, but I posit that this extremely lacklustre plaque written in Klingon and placed carefully on the base of the Faux Enterprise, no less, is a product of decision by committee. I further posit that the committee was mostly or entirely composed of non Trekkies. Genuine Klingon speech is both foreign and scary to an Albertan farmer or Townie. What does the plaque say in Kligon? It says: WHAT DO YOU WANT IN VULCAN? What real Klingon would ever say something like that? I imagine the Trekkie on the committee gave some good actual examples like:
- Choose to fight, not negotiate.
- To understand life, endure pain.
- Great deeds, great songs.
- Klingons are born, live as warriors, then die.
Then the rest of the committee felt it was too violent or too offensive in some way and, oh my goodness, not appropriate for the children. So we got the tepid translation instead. What a waste of granite. Here would have been my choice: TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO DRIVE (TO VULCAN) Have I got it, or have I got it?
