I've photographed this sign outside of Strathmore High School a few dozen times over the years. The first time was in the middle of the covid pandemic when schools were still closed and there were pictures of all of the grads out on the school lawn inviting everyone to their virtual ceremony because the in person one was against the law at that time. Vaccines were just being rolled out then. This was back when people would get into fights over who got the vaccine first instead of whether we should have them at all. How times change.

Anyhow, the one constant message on the sign over the past half decade has been, "Home of the Spartans." That would be the local high school football team, The Strathmore Spartans. For some reason whenever I have photographed this digital sign I have made sure to get that message. I'm honestly not sure why.

I hate team sports. Always have, always will. Growing up with a bad heart that makes you suck at every team sport in phys-ed class is a great way to learn to hate all sports, which I did. I also hate football in particular, because not only does the game appear objectively stupid to me, (hockey is at least less boring to watch), it's a great way to give kids brain injuries. As someone who knew all the athletes in high school, they don't start out with much brain to begin with and can't afford to lose any more. So why schools tolerate a sport that is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to cause brain damage... Ugh.

All of this is a long way of saying I should be the last person taking pictures of a sign that pumps up the local football team, but here we are. Uh, go Spartans?
